b. Testing and characterisation of bits
c. Improvement of laboratory test methods
The technology of ultra-fine grained ceramic and metal composites (on the basis of TiC, TiCN, Cr3C2, B4C, WC), examination of wear performance and mechanisms, has been investigated in collaboration with partners (Tampere University of Technology, Strathclyde University, École Centrale de Paris etc.). Tribology Laboratory of TUT has many devices enabling wear testing in different conditions. TUT has developed and successfully applied several test devices.
