XLIM Organisation

The joint research unit of CNRS and University of Limoges, XLIM leads a policy combining excellence and scientific and technological transfer in its scientific domains.

XLIM grows its role on the research and development scene through two main orientations:

  • Strengthening its core skills in its scientific fields,
  • Developing interdisciplinary skills.

Core skills:

  • Information and Engineering Sciences and Technologies: Microwave, Optics, Electromagnetism,
  • Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Imagery Synthesis,
  • Micro and nano-technologies and Instrumentation.

Interdisciplinary skills:

  • Development of new scientific topics at the interface of its core skills: Communications and Data

Security, Terahertz applications, Biophotonics, CAD, Imagery Synthesis …

  • XLIM is composed of 6 scientific divisions:
  •  High frequency devices, circuits and systems,
  • Micro and nanotechnologies for optoelectronic and microwave components,
  • Photonics
  •  Mathematics, computing sciences,
  •  Signal Image Communications,
  • Associated waves and systems, this last division is concerned by the NeTTUN project.

XLIM unites 175 researchers or engineers and also about 200 PhD students or post-doc positions. XLIM has many original and operational types of equipment leading current technology such as ULB antennas measuring systems, set-ups for characterisation of components and circuit manufacture benches of MEMs circuits and optical fibres drawing towers. These equipment supply the capability to respond to academic and industrial collaborations through technological developments associated with theoretical research.

The XLIM laboratory is a JRU (Joint Research Unit – UMR 7252) and its legal representative are the Université de Limoges (UNILIM), the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). All the scientific work will be carried out at XLIM, at the Université de Limoges but the costs of the project will be borne by the members of the JRU. Some of the scientists working on the project are funded by the French Government (Research Ministry), which is considered as a Third Party; they work for UNILIM but their salaries are paid by the Government. They will therefore be assimilated to the “own resources” of UNILIM, and will be declared by UNILIM in its own Form C.
