TUT – Key Personnel

TUT Project Scope         TUT Organisation

Renno Veinthal, PhD

Renno Veinthal graduated from the Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) in 1999 with a diploma in mechanical engineering. Defended his PhD thesis „Characterization and Modelling of Erosion Wear of Powder Composite Materials and Coatings“ at the Department of Materials Engineering of TUT in 2005.

From 2007 Professor of composite materials of the Department of Materials Engineering of TUT, head of the same department. Main research interests are related to wear resistant composite materials and coatings, different wear processes (erosion, abrasion, fatigue and impact wear) and test methods for wear characterization. Recent studies are related to TiC based cermets in combination with polymer composites for ballistic applications.

Maksim Antonov, PhD

Maksim Antonov defended his PhD thesis “Assessment of Cermets Performance in Aggressive Media” at the Department of Materials Engineering of TUT in 2006. From 2006 he is Senior Researcher and head of Tribology Laboratory of TUT. Recent studies are related to development of cermets with improved fracture toughness, production technology of mineral-based composites and design of new wear test devices.

Irina Hussainova, DSc

Irina graduated from St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Physical-mechanical faculty, Solid Physics department; she obtained her PhD in Engineering Science (TUT). She is a Leading Researcher at the Department of Materials Engineering, TUT, Estonia. She is the author or co-author of more than 90 scientific articles published in international journals and the Laureate of the 2005-year State Award of the Republic of Estonia in the field of Technical Science for the development and investigations in the field of nanomaterials.
