Deutsches Forschungszentrum Fuer Kuenstliche Intelligenz GMBH  - DFKI

Founded in 1988, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, DFKI, is one of the largest non-profit research institutes in the field of innovative software technology and applications based on artificial intelligence (AI). DFKI covers the complete cycle of innovation, from world-class basic research and technology development through prototypes to product commercialisation. In Bremen, with more than 100 scientists and engineers, the DFKI Robotics Innovation Center (RIC) is dedicated to the development of cognitive and adaptive robotic systems for various application areas. These include robots for deep-sea, offshore, and space exploration, but also adaptive automation for industrial production and logistics.

The Robotics Innovation Centre has been involved in a number of ongoing and successfully completed projects related to automated manipulation and tele-operation of robotic manipulators in harsh environments (http://robotik.dfki-bremen.de/en/research/projects.html). DFKI RIC does not only have a dedicated staff of mechanical engineers, construction specialists and software engineers, but also the workshops and labs (CAD lab, electronics lab, rapid prototyping tools; etc) necessary to implement, integrate and test robotic hardware. In addition, advanced simulation tools are used to support system design and enable very fast proof-of-concept testing.
